On College Football And Yanks/Sox

Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Penn State all in the top 10. That can't last for long... maybe I'm the only one, but I'm pretty nervous about PSU at Michigan this coming weekend.
The Yanks did take 2 of 3 from the Sox this past weekend, but I've almost come to accept that we're not going to catch them for the division lead. Don't get me wrong, it still could happen, but I'm thinking more about the playoffs now. But yeah, how sweet was Jeter's tater last night? And that bullpen melt-down on Friday? Absolutely fantastic.
Speaking of that, I totally called it. When we came back to win that game off the Sox bullpen, I said to Linda that it was typical Boston and that later in this series, they'd be scared to go to their bullpen and would leave a starter in just a batter or two too long and we'd beat them that way instead that night. And what happened last night? Francona left Schilling in with two outs in the eighth - Giambi banged one off the monster, missing a homerun by less than a yard, and after getting an out, Jeter hit a no-doubt shot into the seats. It was so tragically wonderful to watch it unfold. It wasn't even like it was just one batter too late - it took two absolute rockets to left before he had the good sense to pull him.
What was he thinking leaving Schilling in that long? He was thinking "my bullpen blew it the other night and if I bring in Papelbon and we lose with him on the mound, he'll have zero confidence going into the playoffs." And all I could think of was Pedro walking off the field looking downright defeated in '03. That was a good memory. This will be another.
